Orange County Head Start!

I am pleased to be the newest member of Orange County

Head Start Planning Division Committee!

Our Goal
The overall goal of Head Start is to bring about a greater degree of “social competence” to children and their families.

Our Mission
We provide children and their families with quality childhood development programs and integrated support services.

Our Vision
Orange County Head Start, Inc. (OCHS) is the catalyst that launches children and their families to a brighter future.

Currently, the planning division team is putting together the 6th annual family and friends festival. The festival takes place in April 2013 and we are eager to get started and have this year be the best year so far!

A little bit about the festival....each year over 2,000 families and children come together to celebrate their success in Head Start as well as learn about new resources/tools. We will have over 100 vendors, over 100 volunteers, and medical, dental, and heath assessments for the families.

Head Start promotes awareness on an overall healthy life style. (Education, Nutrition, and Health).

We are currently looking for donations for food, toys, entertainment, medical/health/dental assessments and volunteers, vendors and/or collaborators.

Please message me if you can donate or volunteer and..

Help us, in giving these children a brighter future!

Things to think about, as your child gets ready to go back to school!

Things to think about, as your child gets ready to go back to school!

·      What activities is my child doing after school?
·      What time are they going to bed?
·      What are they eating throughout the day?
·      How are they performing in school as well as outside of school?
·      How is homework time? Easy or difficult…what can I change to make it a better experience?
·      Who is my child hanging out with? Are they happy?
·   Have I introduced myself and communicated with my child’s teacher?

Make sure your child gets off to a good start this fall!

Benefits of Summer Tutoring!

Studying during the summer, or when on a break from school, can help students retain what they have learned. This is why many choose summer tutoring in order to maintain their comprehension, giving them an advantage once school is back in session.

Although many feel that summer vacations should be left open for play an enjoyment, is an hour long tutoring session a couple times a week that much to ask? Just think of how much easier the transition will be once school starts again in the fall.

Many students enroll in summer classes. In some cases, it is to make up for a failed class or final exam. In other cases, it is to advance their knowledge in a subject before they begin learning it in the classroom. With summer tutoring for academic development, the classes are fast paced; subject matter that is usually taught over four months can be covered in only a month’s time. Instead of sitting at home and wasting time, attending summer classes gives students an advantage.

Summer tutoring is become widely accepted these days, due to the increase in competition between students. Tutoring can give them a better chance of excelling in their studies. In addition, parents that work can drop their children for classes, instead of having them sit alone at home during the summer break. This gives their kids an invaluable opportunity to exercise their minds, stay active, and have fun while increasing their knowledge.

Stop Bullying!

AND WORDS CAN HURT FOREVER
How To Protect Adolescents from Bullying, Harassment, and Emotional Violence
By Garbarino & deLara

-1 out of 4 students is bullied.

- As Many as 160,000 stay home on any given day because they are afraid of being bullied.

-282,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools each month.

-1 out of 5 kids admits to be bullying or done some for of bullying.

“One of the most surprising findings of our research was that many kids believe that adults in the school don’t really care about bullying, sexual harassment, and emotional violence (Garbarino & deLara. (2002).”
Emotional violence can kill!
Teachers need to show their students that they care about them!
Teachers need to be aware of their students relationships and classroom environment.
Teachers need to intervene and stop any form of bullying.
Teachers need to provide a positive classroom environment.
Teachers need to have clear rules and procedures for an effective classroom management.
Teacher needs to keep professionalism at all times.
